Ongoing Projects
Muko HOPE (Help
Orphans to Prosper and Endure)
Currently, ACT is assisting about 70 orphans in the Muko
area. These are young children for whom one or both of
their parents have died of HIV/AIDS. Currently, each of the
orphans are living with their relatives or sponsor families
in the local communities. However, their families need
economic assistance. Sponsors in the U.S. have agreed to
provide financial help for the orphans and their families.
This assistance has been used to supply such items
as clothing, school tuition and supplies as well as food. We do have need for
more sponsors for more orphans. If this is something you
would be interested in, or if you have more questions about
the program, contact
us.

Muko Empowerment Program (MEP)
There are a number of adults in Muko affected by HIV/AIDS.
A number of these persons, primarily women, have little
means of economic support for their livelihood and for
medicines. They and others have participated in this program from ACT,
hand-making beautiful baskets and jewelry that are then
brought to the US for sale. In the US, they can command
much higher prices for these goods than locally in Uganda.
In the future, we hope to expand this program to a wider
range of workers in Muko. The
ACT Centre and assistance of the SIFE student
group at Alma College are two ways we hope to increase
the success of this program in order to make it a larger
source of income in Muko.

The Pillowcase Dress Project
A response to a newsletter article on our efforts in
Uganda was simply “How can I help?”.
Volunteers at Blessed Sacrament are
now busy making dresses.
