ACT Handcrafters

Along with keeping the house, working the garden for family food, raising and managing the kids (4-6), cooking and cleaning, these hardworking women take the time to create their crafts to sell. The money they earn helps them to pay for school fees for their children.

Lovinah Tugumisirize

Lovinah Tugumisirize

Lovinah is the Quality Manager for all woven crafts. The 15th of every month, lovina comes to the ACT Empowerment Center to inspect all woven crafts. She is paid to teach the other women weaving. She joined MEP in 2010. The money she earns helps her to hire workers for her garden because she has little use of her legs. She never married and has no children.

Allen comes from Hamuko Village, in Muko Sub County. She is married with one girl. She joined MEP in 2016 and has been able to buy home utensils with her wages and encourages other women to join MEP.

Loy is a resident of Murukoro Market area. She is the mother of 8, 4 boys and 4 girls. She joined MEP in 2010 and is one of the pioneers. MEP had changed her life because the wages she receives help her to change their diet and buy home utensils.

Stelia comes from Habuhinga Village. She is married with two children - one boy and one girl. She joined the program in 2014. She has learned how to weave in the program and uses the wages for uplifted the financial standards of her family.

Allen comes from Kiruruma Village. She is married with six children - 2 boys and 4 girls. She joined in 2016 and has attended weaving trainings with Lovina. She feels she is among the best weavers and is proud being a MEP member.

Joviah comes from Kiruruma Village and is married with 2 boys and 2 girls. She joined in 2016 and earns wages the have helped her provide food and scholastic materials to her children.

Yesenta comes from Hamuko Village and is married. She has 5 girls and 5 boys. She joined MEP in 2016 and has learned skills from Lovina and is interested in attending more training for more expertise.

Honorata comes from Rushekye B Village and is married with 5 boys and 4 girls. She joined MEP in 2009 and with her wages has been able to buy potato seeds and selling them. With this she gets school fees for her kids.

Kellen comes from Kamusegwa Village and is married with 3 boys and 4 girls. She joined MEP in 2016 and is so interested because of the ACT Staff hospitality to the MEP members. She appreciates getting lunch when she brings her handcrafts to sell.

Beatrece comes from Rushekye A Village and is married with nine children - 1 boy and 8 girls. She joined MEP in 2002 and suggests ACT to have more trainings. Wages have helped her with additional family income in addition to agriculture.

Veneranda comes from Rwarubaya Village and is married with 1 boy and 3 girls. She joined MEP in 2014 and acquired skills from ACT trainings she has attended. She feels lucky to enroll as a MEP member because she has gained a lot ranging from socialization and receiving wages for her crafts.

Prikeria comes from Kanyamatembe Village. She is married with 3 boys and 2 girls and joined MEP in 2010. Prikeria says she was able to display her weaving skills by producing unique items that were like by Americans. Some of her crafts are unique to her.
