Try This Easy Chapati Bread Recipe!

How about a taste of Uganda? The recipe below is for a local favorite recipe, chapati bread:

Ingredients:

  • 600 g baking flour

  • ½ t salt

  • 1 egg

  • ½ level t baking powder

  • 250 ml warm water

  • 100 ml cooking oil

Directions:

Sieve flour into a bowl. Keep back about 150g. Add salt and 1 T oil. Rub oil into flour. Add beaten egg and ¾ c water. Blend well adding a bit more water if mix is too stiff or a little flour if dough sticks to dry hands. Knead well till smooth. Cut into 6 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap 15-20 minutes. Heat the frying pan over heat. On a flour board, roll out a ball. Grease pan lightly with cooking oil. Place flat Chapati in pan. Press down lightly to cook for about 1 minute and turn over.
