Two Stories of Lives Saved Through ACT Uganda HEAL Program
The HEAL (Health is Elemental to All Life) program continues to grow in reach and impact. In May, our HEAL community health manager, Judith, led a full month of maternal health education sessions, providing vital information and support to expecting mothers. As we move into June and July, the focus will shift to school-based menstrual hygiene education—empowering students with the knowledge and resources they need for healthy development.
Two powerful stories from Judith’s recent sessions highlight the life-saving potential of this work:
A 16-year-old expectant mother attended one of the sessions and received a Mama Kit. Encouraged by what she learned, she made the decision to deliver her baby in a hospital. During labor, she experienced complications and required an emergency C-section. Judith visited her at the hospital both during and after delivery. Thanks to timely medical care, both mother and baby are now healthy and safe. The only outfit the baby had was the one included in the Mama Kit.
Another mother, with a history of three pregnancy losses, shared her fears about her current pregnancy. Judith encouraged her to undergo Rh group testing. The test revealed that she was Rh-negative and her baby Rh-positive—a condition that can lead to serious complications without treatment. Because of this early intervention, she was able to receive the appropriate medication and successfully delivered a healthy baby.
These stories are a powerful reminder: lives are being saved because of health education, compassion, and community support. The HEAL program is not just improving lives—it is protecting them.
We are deeply grateful to Judith and our dedicated team for their tireless efforts to bring hope and health to the families of Muko, and thank you to our donors who make this program possible.
